Admission
Policy & Procedures
1) An institution must have a written policy and procedure for assessment and placement of students within programs. Institutional and/or program specific minimum requirements for admission must be met prior to admission and…
2) Where the training is for the purpose of obtaining a trade or professional license or certificate, an institution must advise the student in writing of the minimum regulated trade or professional requirements, if any, prior to admitting the student into the program.
3) If an applicant fails to meet the minimum admission requirements and is still wishing to be admitted, the student must sign a release with the institution which hold the institution blameless should the student fail to satisfactorily complete the program of study.
Specific
Admission Requirements
*WCB Programs (or equivalencies)
1) Students must be a minimum of 16 years of age.
2) Students must be able to read and understand the course materials as presented (English). Students concerned about their reading and language skills should consult the Director prior to registration.

Level 2/3 – in order to take the exam (formerly by the WCB)
Level 1 – in order to take the course
Transport Endorsement students must show current OFA Certification
4) Level 2/3 Students are required by the WCB to have a Medical Certificate of Fitness completed by their physician in order to be certified. An Attendant must be physically and mentally capable of safely and effectively performing the required duties. Conditions evaluated for the purpose of considering a candidate’s fitness include: Disease conditions*, psychological and/or emotional illness, visual acuity, hearing acuity, fine motor skills, physical fitness, drug and alcohol abuse, lifting ability and use of medications that could affect ability to perform first aid.
*Disease conditions evaluated include drug or alcohol addiction, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis and communicable diseases.
Student Conduct
Expectations
1) To abide by the rules of the school and to be regular in attendance.
2) To respect the rights of other students to participate in a non-threatening atmosphere and an environment conducive to learning.
3) To not smoke in the classroom or congregate in the areas that will affect the other tenants of the occupied building.
4) To dress appropriately to participate in ‘on the floor’ first aid practical training.
5) To take special care to ensure good personal hygiene as most of the skills require sharing of first aid equipment and materials.
REFUND POLICY
Refunds in the
cases of withdrawal or dismissal…
1) Written notice must be provided by…
a) a student to the institution when the student withdraws, and…
b) the institution to the student where the institution dismisses a student
Where total fees have not yet been collected, the institution is not responsible for refunding more than has been collected to date.
Refunds BEFORE the program of study starts…
2) a) If written notice of withdrawal is received by the institution less than seven (7) calendar days after the contract is made, and before the start of the program of study, the institution may retain the lesser of 10% of the total fees due under the contract or $100.
b) Subject to subsection 2(a), if written notice of withdrawal is received by the institution seven or more calendar days before the start of a program of study, a full refund will be made (subject to all books returned in new condition).
Refunds AFTER
the program of study starts…
3) a) If written notice of withdrawal is received by the institution, or a student is dismissed, within 10% of the program of study’s duration, the institution may retain 30% of the total fees due under contract.
b) Subject to subsection 3(a), if written notice of withdrawal is received by the institution, or a student is dismissed, within 30% of the program of study’s duration, the institution may retain 50% of the total fees due under the contract.
c) If the student withdraws or is dismissed after 30% of the program of study’s duration, no refund is required.
Grounds
for Dismissal
A student will be dismissed for any of the following reasons…
1) Not following the instructions of the management and teachers while on the premises.
2) Being particularly disruptive in class and not respecting the rights of other class members.
3) Coming to class drunk or suspected to be under the influence of alcohol.
4) Coming to class appearing to be under the influence of substance abuse.
Dispute
Resolution Policy
I also understand that in case of conflict the school has a Dispute Resolution Policy.
Any disputes or complaints will be reviewed by the Director of the Training School.
All parties involved in the dispute or named in the complaint, will submit in writing to the Director, all pertinent information and details or events leading up to the dispute or complaint. All relevant materials will be reviewed and interviews conducted by the Director. The decision, with the reasons, will be provided and communicated in writing by the Director to all parties involved in the dispute.
Appeals
An agency must have a written appeal
process in place and communicated to candidates, that indicates how to address
issues regarding the deduction of exam marks, evaluator conduct, or application
of the grading criteria. The
procedure must describe the course of action for the complainant who is not
satisfied with the agency’s investigative conduct, the conclusions reached or
resolutions offered. See Dispute Resolution Policy
above – Appeals will follow the same process.
Restrictions
There are 3 restrictions that can be applied to OFA certification. 1. Age(under 19), 2. Hearing (issued by the WCB), 3. Lifting (*see WCB).
